Miami Heat Vice President of Player Programs and Development, and former center for the team, was snapped with Carnival F.U.N. Team member Antoinette during Zo’s Family Health and Wellness Groove.
In January, the F.U.N. Team assisted with Zo’s Family Health and Wellness Groove that included a 5K run/walk, fitness classes, presentations, food demonstrations and interactive zones with bounce houses, obstacle courses and rock climbing. The event benefits the Mourning Family Foundation and its mission to support education, mentoring and advocacy for youth and families in South Florida
Selfies. Tweets. Snaps. Memes. For our February 2017 visit, students and mentors got a crash course on the dos and don’ts of social media from Youth Life Coach and Guidance Counselor Rockell Bartoli. Mentors were also honored for their hard work in honor of National Mentoring Month.
To ring in the New Year, Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program students went onboard Royal Princess, a ship in Carnival’s sister-brand Princess fleet. The students got to see first-hand what it’s really like on a cruise ship! For many, this was the first time they had ever visited the ship, and everyone enjoyed learning about the operation. They also enjoyed lunch and a tour before returning to Carnival.
Students from the Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program and their mentors were treated to a fun lesson about behavioral styles by Carnival Cruise Line’s very own Chief People Officer Ron Phillips.
As part of HandsOn Miami Day this year, the Carnival F.U.N. Team worked at the South Florida Easter Seals location in Allapattah. They painted the interior walls of the center, enhanced the landscape through some gardening and planted an herb garden for the individuals with disabilities and special needs that use the facilities.
During the fall visit, the Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program students were joined by Breakthrough Miami, who taught the students how to apply efficient and effective study skills, as well as how to prepare for the ACT and SAT.
On Sept. 24, the Carnival F.U.N. Team participated in the St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer in Miami at Tamiami Park. The fundraiser ensures that no child at St. Jude ever sees a bill, and the Carnival F.U.N. team was Top 3 overall for team funds raised!
A new school year has kicked off, and that mean a new group of freshman students are joining our Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program. On this first school-to-work visit, all of the students met with their mentors and learned what was planned for the year ahead!
