We recently attended the NRF Foundation Gala in New York, which Carnival Foundation supported. Bill Brand, SVP of retail for Carnival Corporation, serves on their board and we are thrilled to be involved with the organization. As the philanthropic arm of the National Retail Federation, the NRF Foundation stands up for the value of retail jobs at all levels and helps support a bigger, better pool of talent for retailers nationwide through education, training and experiences for everyone from high school and college students to people with barriers to employment.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Breakfast

On #MLKDay, Carnival Foundation Executive Director Linda Coll attended the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Foundation’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Breakfast. The organization was founded by Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, and the breakfast honors the young men that make up the Class of 2020 and the life and teachings of Dr. King. The 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project is a dropout prevention, mentoring program committed to closing the minority male achievement gap by guiding minority male students along a carefully charted path through grades K-12 and college or ensuring the attainment of other post-secondary credentials, and increasing their employability in higher wage, high skills jobs within high demand industries.

Special Olympics Maryland Polar Bear Plunge

Special Events

Special Olympics Maryland was able to make the 2017 Polar Bear Plunge, their largest fundraising event, a huge success, raising more than 2.5 million dollars in this single event. Carnival was present at the Polar Bear Plunge with Carnival Cruise Line’s Kathy Donnelly and travel agents forming Team Carnival during the corporate plunge. Carnival Corporation Regional Vice President Kirk Neal participated in the fun by plunging more than 24 times in 24 hours in the icy cold waters of the Chesapeake Bay!

Carnival Center for Excellence Grand Opening

Special Events

Carnival Foundation and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami celebrated the grand opening of the new BBBS headquarters, the Carnival Center for Excellence. The center was made possible through a $5 million gift from Carnival Foundation, the largest corporate gift ever bestowed on the Miami chapter and the largest ever provided to any local affiliate chapter of the national nonprofit youth mentoring organization. In addition, the National Basketball Association’s Miami HEAT Charitable Fund donated a $350,000 state-of-the-art Miami HEAT Big Fitness Room to the facility to promote health and wellness to BBBS participants.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony and news conference took place at the facility at 550 NW LeJeune Road in Miami. The event featured executives of Carnival, BBBS and the Miami HEAT as well as local elected officials and student essay contest scholarship winners, and tours of the facility.

Carnival’s Corporate Relay For Life

Special Events

Carnival Foundation and Carnival Cruise Line hosted their first Relay For Life benefiting American Cancer Society. Employees exceeded expectations after surpassing both company goals of $50,000 and $75,000. Carnival raised a total of $195,392.18 including a match from the Foundation of $75,000. The event was very well attended and brought employees from across the company together for a great cause.

Salvation Army Angel Tree

Special Events

As part of Carnival Cruise Line’s annual support of the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, the company’s shoreside employees donated 500 toys and bikes that will be given to underprivileged children throughout South Florida.

R.O.C.K. Camp Send-Off

Special Events

Carnival Foundation sponsored a group of special kids battling cancer so they could attend the American Cancer Society’s R.O.C.K. Camp at Boggy Creek. The campers were sent off for their weeklong adventure in style with a special Hawaiian-themed breakfast at the Carnival headquarters. Carnival President and CEO Gerry Cahill and FunShip Freddy were on-hand to wish them well.

Carnival Foundation was a supporting partner of the Dolphins Cycling Challenge. Carnival Cruise Lines employees participated in the event that benefits the University of Miami’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
