Special guests Tracy and Alonzo Mourning joined students and mentors to share their stories and wisdom about life’s challenges and overcoming adversity. They also addressed girls and boys individually to discuss topics significant to each group.

First School to Work Visit of 2015-16 Year

Scholarship & Mentoring Program

The Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program kicked off its ninth year with its first visit in September.  Thirty new freshmen joined the program and were eager to meet their new “bigs.” The program now consists of more than 100 students and mentors. Fun Ship Freddy was on hand to greet the kids as they connected with their mentors, took photos and enjoyed breakfast.

The final school-to-work visit of the school year for the Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring students is always bittersweet. While various students are recognized for their outstanding work and participation in the program, it’s also time to say good-bye and good luck to the graduation seniors. Carnival Leaders Share Career Advice with Scholarship & Mentoring Students

Students from our Carnival Scholarship & Mentoring Program learned about different career paths and job skills from our Career Exploration Panel featuring vice presidents and directors from nine Carnival departments. The panel discussed what it takes to obtain the position you want and spoke about how there is no single path to success, but there are skills and qualities that play a big role in getting you there.

Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Students Visit FIU

Scholarship & Mentoring Program

This year, the Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Students took a field trip to Florida International University (FIU) to see what college life is like. The students were given a walking tour of the campus that included the dorms, gym, classrooms, the Stocker AstroScience Center, library, bookstore and more. Everyone was able to get a glimpse into what it’s like to be a college student.

2015 Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program Scholarship Ceremony

Scholarship & Mentoring Program

Once again, the Carnival Foundation awarded 16 students in the Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program with a four-year college scholarship purchased from the Florida Prepaid College Foundation. For the 2015 recipients, Carnival Corporation Chairman Micky Arison, Miami HEAT retired star and current Vice President of Player Programs Alonzo Mourning, Miami-Dade Superintendent of Schools Alberto Carvalho and founder of the Florida Prepaid College Program Stanley G. Tate were on hand at half-time during the HEAT basketball game to congratulate the students.

Students Practice Interviewing

Scholarship & Mentoring Program

During the January Scholarship and Mentoring Program school-to-work visit, students had the opportunity to practice their interviewing skills during mock interviews with local companies. Representatives from the businesses came to the Carnival headquarters and sat down for one-on-one interviews with the students, who received critiques so they could learn how to give a great interview.

Everyone had a blast at the annual holiday party for the Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program students and their mentors. The students also brought their families, and it was a fabulous night with great food and music by DJ RBK.

Scholarship Students Meet Actress Gabrielle Union

Scholarship & Mentoring Program

The Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program students had a nice surprise at their January meeting at Carnival’s headquarter offices. Actress Gabrielle Union was a guest and spoke to the kids about her path to stardom. Both the students and the mentors enjoyed hearing her inspiring words.
