For our April Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program visit, students and mentors learned more about Carnival Corporation CEO Arnold Donald. Mr. Donald spoke about growing up in New Orleans’ Ninth Ward and his journey to becoming one of the most powerful African American men in the world. He left our students with a message that was repeated every day to him in high school: “Prepare yourselves. You’re going to run the world.”

A Visit to Royal Princess

Scholarship & Mentoring Program

To ring in the New Year, Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program students went onboard Royal Princess, a ship in Carnival’s sister-brand Princess fleet. The students got to see first-hand what it’s really like on a cruise ship! For many, this was the first time they had ever visited the ship, and everyone enjoyed learning about the operation. They also enjoyed lunch and a tour before returning to Carnival.

For the final visit of the 2015-16 school year, Miami artist Romero Britto visited the students and shared is passion for art and the road to achieving success. ‘Shark Tank’ Celebrity Daymond John Speaks to Scholarship and Mentoring Students

He invests millions in hopeful entrepreneurs each week on ABC’s hit show “Shark Tank,” but recently Daymond John spoke to the students about his rise to becoming founder, president and chief executive officer of FUBU — “For Us, By Us” — a multi-million-dollar sportswear clothing brand. A true rags to riches story, John told this kids that passion for what you do should be the driving force, not money.

2016 Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program Scholarship Ceremony

Scholarship & Mentoring Program

Another outstanding group of 15 Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring Program students earned a four-year college scholarship purchased from the Florida Prepaid College Foundation by Carnival Foundation. The scholarships and laptops for the 2016 recipients were presented at half-time during a Miami HEAT basketball game. Miami HEAT President of Business Operations Eric Woolworth, Vice President of Player Programs Alonzo Mourning, Miami-Dade Superintendent of Schools Alberto Carvalho, Senator Ron Silver and founder of the Florida Prepaid College Program Stanley G. Tate were on hand to congratulate the students.
