A Visit to FIU with the Carnival Scholarship & Mentoring Program

In April, the Carnival Scholarship & Mentoring Program took the Bigs and Littles to Florida International University for a tour of the campus.
Our April visit took a road trip to Florida International University! Kenneth Hall, SVP of advancement for FIU, welcomed the group and acknowledged the long-term relationship between FIU and Carnival. Richard Brilliant, chief risk and compliance officer/global ethics and compliance for Carnival Corporation, spoke to the group about having an open mind as they toured the campus, and how their studies can work across a variety of places. Kaisy Suarez, admissions counselor for FIU, gave a presentation about admissions to the university.
Two fun activities were led by the FIU Center for Leadership: “Zoom” challenged mentors and mentees to see beyond their own “frame” by practicing the strategic communication needed to align on a shared vision. In “The Calculator,” mentors and mentees worked side-by-side to master a physical sequence, demonstrating that even the most complex goals are reachable through role clarity and continuous improvement.
The group toured FIU, followed by lunch before heading back to Carnival. Tour highlights included The Graham Center, Charles E. Perry Building Primera Casa (FIU’s first building), dormitories, Wellness and Recreation Center, Sweetheart Kissing Bridge, The Steven and Dorothea Green Library and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Everyone enjoyed touring the impressive campus and learning about FIU. Many thanks to FIU for hosting our group.
